Runout is tested using the Height Gauge and is acquired by taking the difference between measurements from the three blade paddles.
The measurement is taken from the same location on each paddle. A silver marker can be used to mark the assigned location of each paddle. Avoid the parting line to avoid skewed readings!
Lay the blade flat with the support of two paddles and mark Paddle 1.
Repeat for the next two paddles.

The blade must rest perfectly and have no movement during     test, the only movement allowed will be rotation of the blade. Keep the shaft and the needle of the Height Gauge perpendicular to one another. As pictured, metal pieces are used to keep the shaft supported in an upright form and secured to avoid up and down movement.

With manipulation to the adjustment knobs on the Height Gauge, one knob lifts the needle and the other knob tightens or loosens the arm.
The needle is to be set close to the blade and then the adjustment knob is turned to lower it further onto Paddle 1.
Part 1 of runout is completed when the gauge is at zero
